We went through BTQ's recorded wait times across Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom to answer the question with actual numbers instead of advice passed down from travel blogs.
Here are the three things that actually move the needle.
When to go
Week of year is the variable that matters most. Day of week barely registers.
When to arrive
Two windows have short lines: the first two hours of the day, and the last 90 minutes before close. The afternoon never fully recovers.
Hollywood Studios has the most extreme curve. The average wait at 8 AM is 24 minutes. By 11 AM it's 53 minutes, over double. And unlike Magic Kingdom, it doesn't come back down in the evening. Hollywood Studios at 6 PM (41 min) is still worse than Magic Kingdom at 11 AM (28 min).
Animal Kingdom runs the opposite pattern: it opens with already-elevated waits (26 min at 8 AM) but falls sharply in the evening, down to 13 minutes at 9 PM. If you're doing Animal Kingdom, the evening window is underrated.
Where to go
Magic Kingdom
TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train run high all day with no real recovery. Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Space Mountain have the biggest rope drop windows.
Tiana's at 8am averages 6 minutes and climbs to 46 by afternoon, the biggest single-ride time save in the park. TRON starts at 56 and actually gets worse through the evening, peaking at 86 minutes at 6pm.
EPCOT
EPCOT has two rides that behave unlike anything else in the resort. Guardians of the Galaxy never recovers. Test Track has almost no morning advantage.
Guardians starts at 51 minutes at 8am, climbs to 90 minutes by 7pm, and never drops during the day. It is the only major ride in all four Disney World parks that gets measurably worse as the day goes on. Soarin' and Remy's are manageable in the first hour, but save Guardians and Test Track for Lightning Lane or accept the wait.
Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom runs a different pattern from every other park. Avatar Flight of Passage opens high and stays high, but Kilimanjaro Safaris has the most dramatic afternoon drop in the resort.
Avatar opens at 77 minutes and never really recovers until the park nearly closes. Kilimanjaro Safaris is the opposite: 50 minutes at 10am, under 10 minutes after 6pm. If you are doing Animal Kingdom on a busy day, the afternoon safari is the single best time-save in the park.
Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios has the steepest morning curve of any park and the highest average waits overall. We have a full breakdown of every major ride at Hollywood Studios in our dedicated article.
What this means for your trip
Book your trip in late October (after the 20th), mid-November, or early December. These are objectively the lowest-crowd periods of the year. Avoid the first two weeks of October, as the Halloween crowds are worse than spring break.
Arrive at park open, but only for Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. At Magic Kingdom, the morning window is wide enough that you don't need to sprint. At Hollywood Studios, the drop from 8 AM to 11 AM is so steep that nothing else compensates for a late start.
Come back in the evening. The last 90 minutes before park close regularly produce the same waits as first thing in the morning, and most visitors have already left. At Magic Kingdom, 10 PM waits (14 min) nearly match 8 AM waits (14 min).
Build your morning list around the big rope-drop winners: Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Soarin', and Slinky Dog Dash have the highest early-vs-peak spread. Hitting all three before 10 AM saves you nearly 90 minutes of waiting compared to doing them at midday.
Use BTQ to catch the windows in real time. Historical averages tell you what to expect. BTQ tracks live waits every few minutes and alerts you when a ride drops, like Guardians unexpectedly clearing out or Tiana's reopening with a short queue mid-afternoon.
The data above is based on historical averages. On the day you visit, conditions shift. BTQ tracks every ride across all four Disney World parks in real time so you can act on the windows as they happen.

Frequently asked questions
What is the least crowded week to visit Disney World?
The week of October 27th has the lowest average wait times of any week in our dataset, at 23 minutes. The third week of November (around Nov 17) is nearly identical at 23 minutes. Early December (Dec 1–15) is also consistently low at around 25 minutes average.
What time should you arrive at Disney World to avoid lines?
Arrive at park opening. At Hollywood Studios, this is non-negotiable: waits more than double between 8 AM and 11 AM. At Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, the morning window is somewhat wider, but being in your first queue by 8:30 AM still saves 20+ minutes per ride on the high-demand attractions.
Is Disney World busier on weekends?
Yes, but less than most guides suggest. Weekends average 32.4 minutes vs 29–30 minutes on weekdays, a difference of about 3 minutes per ride. Week of year has far more impact than day of week.
Is Disney World crowded in October?
It depends on when in October. Early October (the weeks of Oct 6–13) is actually the most crowded non-holiday stretch of the entire year due to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween, averaging 41 minutes. But the last week of October (Oct 27+) is the quietest week of the year at 23 minutes.
What time of day has the shortest lines at Disney World?
8–9 AM has the shortest lines across all parks. A secondary window opens in the last 90 minutes before park close: 10 PM average waits are just 15 minutes across all Disney World parks. The peak is consistently 11 AM–12 PM.
Which Disney World park has the longest lines?
Hollywood Studios has the highest average wait times, peaking at 53 minutes during the 11 AM–noon window, over twice what Magic Kingdom sees at the same time. EPCOT is a close second, staying elevated from 10 AM through 6 PM.
