How to Use Beat the Queue

The average theme park visitor waits 2 to 3 hours in line on a typical day. Not because there aren't enough rides. They're hitting them in the wrong order, at the wrong time, without knowing what's actually happening on the other side of the park.

Beat the Queue fixes that. Here's exactly what it does, step by step.

How the plan gets built

BTQ doesn't use a static itinerary template. Every plan is generated fresh on your visit date, using that morning's crowd data and your specific preferences.

1
Your must-dos get scheduled at their shortest window
When you tag Hagrid's or Guardians as a must-do, BTQ doesn't just add it to the list: it figures out the best time that ride will run short on your specific date, then builds the rest of the plan around hitting it then. Most visitors hit must-do rides at the worst possible time.
2
Lane selection shapes the whole day
Thrill Seeker, Family Friendly, and Explorer each produce meaningfully different plans. Thrill Seeker front-loads high-intensity rides during their shortest windows. Family Friendly paces around height restrictions and ride intensity. Explorer mixes crowd favorites with underrated attractions most visitors skip.
3
The plan adapts every few minutes as you go
A ride goes down. A show lets out and floods one section of the park. Your lunch ran long. Tap Reoptimize and BTQ reads the current live wait times and rebuilds everything that's left around actual conditions, not a snapshot from this morning.
4
You can always override without breaking anything
Skip a ride, reschedule it for later, or divert to something else entirely. Tap 'Go to different attraction' and pick any ride in the park. The plan rebuilds instantly around your decision. You're always in control.

Setting up your visit

The setup takes about 90 seconds. Here's what each option does.

Must-do attractions

These are the rides you're not leaving the park without. Tag them, and they're guaranteed in your plan. BTQ figures out when each one will be shortest on your specific date and sequences everything else around those windows.

Skip these attractions

Exclude anything that doesn't fit your day: water rides if you'd rather stay dry, height-restricted rides if someone in your group can't board, or anything you've done before and don't need to repeat.

Preferences

πŸ’§
Skip water ridesToggle
Removes all splash and water attractions from your plan. Turn this on if you'd rather stay dry.

Routes around attractions requiring non-standard boarding. Your plan only includes rides your group can get on.
🏠
Prefer indoorToggle
Prioritizes covered attractions. Useful on hot days or when afternoon rain is likely.

During your visit

Join queue

Tap this when you physically enter the line. BTQ logs your start time and uses it to calibrate the rest of the plan. The more accurately you track entries, the sharper the day gets.

Finished attraction

Tap when you exit the ride. Your day summary starts accumulating from this moment. The plan immediately checks current conditions and tells you where to go next.

Skip

Removes the current attraction from today's plan entirely. Use it when the line is longer than expected and you'd rather not wait, or if your group doesn't want to do it.

Reschedule

Keeps the attraction in your plan but moves it to the next optimal window later in the day. Better than skipping if you still want to do it: BTQ will find the best opening.

Go to different attraction

Lets you pick any ride in the park right now, regardless of what the plan says. Use it when you're passing something with a short line, or your group decides to detour. Your itinerary rebuilds around the choice.

Reoptimize

The most powerful button in the app. Tap it any time conditions have changed significantly: a long lunch, a ride that just reopened, a sudden crowd surge in one area. BTQ reads the current live wait times and rebuilds your entire remaining plan from scratch.

Map

Every attraction with location data shows a navigation button. Tap it to see exactly where the ride is and how to get there. Especially useful at parks you've never been to.

End of day

When you tap "End Visit," BTQ shows you a summary of your day:

  • Rides completed
  • Time in park from first queue to last ride
  • Average wait per attraction
  • Estimated minutes saved compared to a visitor doing the same rides at random times

The headline scales with how much you accomplished: Nice Visit, Great Day, Park Champion, Legendary Day. The summary is also a useful record if you're visiting the same park again.

Parks BTQ covers

Walt Disney World
MK Β· EPCOT Β· HS Β· AK
2
Disneyland Resort
DL Β· DCA

Live wait times are refreshed every few minutes across all 9 parks. Historical data goes back to opening day for most attractions: that's the foundation the live plan builds on.

Frequently asked questions

Is BTQ free?

Yes. BTQ is free to use. Sign in to see your full plan.

How often does BTQ update wait times?

Every few minutes from live park data. Your itinerary on the day of your visit reflects actual crowd conditions that morning, not historical averages.

Do I need to arrive at park opening?

No. BTQ builds around whatever time you arrive. But the data consistently shows the first 90 minutes after opening are the highest-value window of the day. If you can make rope drop, the plan will front-load your strongest opportunities.

What if a ride is down when I'm supposed to be there?

Skip it or reschedule. When you reoptimize, BTQ checks current ride status and routes around anything that's closed.

Can I change my preferences mid-visit?

Yes. Tap the edit button in your visit header to change your lane, update your must-do list, or adjust preferences. Save and the plan rebuilds around the new settings.

What parks does BTQ support?

All four Walt Disney World parks, both Disneyland Resort parks, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Universal's Epic Universe.
